PRESENT ADVICE

 

She kept on tapping,

her finger upon my shoulder,

telling me, “You’re getting older.”

I elaborated, elongated phrases,

mourning the stories my life did not pen,

weary of the long road,

fearful of an end.

She kept on tapping,

commanding my attention at last,

“Arguing with the past, won’t convince the future.”
